Awesome, we are learning together and every generation can go further as we understand more. I never realized how financially illiterate I was until I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, Richard Kioyosaki. Just because I earned a pay cheque, had a chequing account and paid my bills didn’t mean I understood money. Very enlightening. He also has a game for kids…[Read more]

I have read Rich Dad Poor Dad years ago – he is quite a story teller recounting how he tried to ‘make’ money. lol. I will have to look into the kids game @lynn this is the first I’ve heard of it!

I totally agree Breanne with keeping money separate from chores and contribution to the family and home. We did that with our son and it really helped keep the focus on how do we be a family and have a great life together. Money management was a completely separate thing which I wish we had done even more with, in terms of being financially…[Read more]

wow yes @Lynnn, I had a bit of a staggering moment reading what you wrote here on keeping money separate from contribution to the family & home – tying those together suddenly feels… almost dangerous. I had a very close friend growing up whose father leaned on him for farm work & chores more than they would a hired hand & there was an…[Read more]

Yes we are looking pretty serious as we explore people’s experience with chronic pain and the powerful challenge it poses to your sense of self. I was very moved by people sharing their painful stories but with the optimism of how you can get through a tough and in many cases long, journey with recovery. What I took away was the deep belief people…[Read more]

Thank-you Lynn . I too appreciated the video that Kalikamurti had done for us before the meeting and is available on the Ventures Stream. One thing I have become aware of is that I grew up with a set of behaviours for dealing with pain. My father had been a life long sufferer of Arthritis post war times. So when pain hit me I knew what to do…[Read more]

I love the 3 Rs and it is a nice difference from the Reading, Writing and Arithmetic from school. These are the basics of life skills and so easy to remember. My favorite is the last R as I think I get my “right order” out of sequence still, even though I am not a kid any more. As we grow we can evolve our understanding of “right order” so that…[Read more]

Lynn Sumida M.S.W./R.S.W. started the topic Do Expectation fit in Choice Theory? in the forum Ventures Video Club 3 years, 4 months ago ·
In the VVC conversation a comment was made along the lines of if we have expectations we are not doing CT. This caught my attention and I started to ponder that idea. Isn’t our Quality World full of expectations of how we want things to be? And isn’t this what people struggle with all the time – not getting what they want?
I think the issue is are…[Read more] -
Since the Ventures Video Club conversation I’ve been thinking of the difference between knowing Choice Theory and having great relationships. I think knowing CT is a foundation for understanding humans but it doesn’t tell us what to do or not do or give us all we need to relate well. There is a translation of theory into practice required or “ru…[Read more]

Thanks for the question Chuck. I am not sure if we will get to that question tonight because we are putting the focus on relationships for the first VVC gathering. And I love that you’ve raised it. Perhaps it will be added to questions we want to return to in future conversations. I hope to see you tonight!

Hi Everyone, I am getting really excited about our live conversation on the 23rd. I feel a bit like a new kid going to my first after school activity. If you haven’t watched the interview with Carleen I really encourage you to do so as we will be discussing the ideas she shared and it will perhaps be hard to jump into the conversation without the…[Read more]
